That's Just Manny Being Manny, i.e. a Dick!

On Thursday, when Manny Ramirez was traded from the Red Sox to the Dodgers right at the trading deadline, I was wondering why the Sox would get rid of their best hitter while they are still battling for the AL East Crown. But, after listening to Peter Gammons and other sports announcers from Boston, it's pretty evident that the team pretty much had no choice.

Manny is a complete dick and is what's wrong with the game of baseball today. Like Barry Bonds, he thinks that he's more important than the game itself.

Manny declared earlier this year that he was done playing in Boston and demanded a trade. He started faking injuries and sat out an important game in New York and against Seattle--makes me wish Lou Gehrig was around to beat the crap out of him. His injury claims led to the Sox forcing him to see a doctor, who proved that there was nothing wrong with him.

Recently, Manny started chirping that if he wasn't traded by August 1, that he wouldn't play for the Red Sox the rest of the year.

Manny has been doing stuff like this throughout his career, which is why many sports reporters say, "That's just Manny being Manny." Now, I realize Manny is a synonym for asshole.

Making the threat of not playing, he could care less that he's under contract, getting paid $20 million/year. There's no concern for his teammates--or "family" as he's called it--which is fighting to overtake the Tampa Bay Rays to win their division. And, no worry at all about manager Terry Francona, who's lost 15 pounds from the stress of dealing with his antics.

It's said an awful lot, but it's true -- Manny is getting paid an ungodly amount to play a kids game. Instead of enjoying it and helping the fans to enjoy the game of baseball he has done his part to try to make a mockery out of it.

Now, he's the Dodgers' problem. Who knows how long before he starts whining again and starts faking injuries. My guess is that it will be mid-September, when the Dodgers are a game behind the Diamondbacks in the division race.

All of the issues this year started, it turns out, because Manny wants a contract for $100 million for the next four years instead of the $68 million he would have made under his current contract. He knew the Red Sox wouldn't give it to him, so he decided to start acting like a six-year-old child.

Hopefully, the owners remember the way Manny acted this year and don't offer him a contract, so, like Bonds, he'll be sitting on the sidelines next year wondering what might have been if he thought about the team and others before himself. Manny, you suck!

Sometimes I wonder if the fans weren't better off when the players were paid a whole lot less and had to get jobs in the off-season in order to survive.

A contract is a contract, and players ought to honor them. As they say in "Mr. Deeds," would Manny accept a pay cut if his numbers went down? I doubt it. The owners need to grow a pair, stop letting players hold them up constantly, and instead put them on the sidelines until they come to their senses.
